Classroom Management Plan:

Being Proactive over Reactive

Disciple Model

After being introduced to and attempting various discipline models, I discovered that the Dreikurs Model best suits my teaching style and educational philosophy. The Dreikurs Model emphasizes goals and decision making. Dreikurs believes that all students want to belong and behave in a way that will get them peer recognition. The Model suggests that misbehavior is directed at mistaken goals: attention-getting, power-seeking, revenge, and displaying inadequacy, etc. The best way to handle inappropriate behavior is to identify the goal or reason behind students’ actions. Once the teacher understands the mistaken goal, he/she will be able to efficiently correct the behavior using reinforcements. Because I would like to help my future students intrinsically make better decisions, I will use the Dreikurs model to coach them through creating and obtaining more advantageous goals.

Classroom Management Philosophy

The following classroom management plan is devoted to the successful completion of three goals:

  • To create and maintain a safe and productive atmosphere that all students can thrive in together.

  • To respect ourselves and others, and demonstrate the utmost of good character traits.

  • To develop an intrinsic motivation for learning in the minds and hearts of all students.

Student Policies, Rules, Consequences & Rewards

This management plan includes the ideal of preventive discipline rather than defensive discipline. As a constructivist instructor, my students will be given the tools and incentives to maintain appropriate behavior and will be trusted to do so. I plan to be proactive as opposed to reactive when it comes to correcting students’ behavior. The following principles will be proactively implemented in my future classroom:

1.) Assess, clarify, and communicate expectations

2.) Create a welcoming and nurturing classroom climate

3.) Democratically develop classroom rules and consequences

4.) Maintain a daily routine, while also being flexible

5.) Make learning attractive and engaging for the student

6.) Handle inappropriate behavior quickly, consistently, and respectfully
